Sabitri Brata , also known as Savitri Brata , is a sacred and culturally significant fasting ritual observed by married Hindu women in Odisha and some other parts of India. Celebrated with deep devotion and spiritual fervor, this vrata (fast) is a heartfelt prayer by wives for the health, longevity, and prosperity of their husbands. In 2026, Sabitri Brata falls on 1 6 May 2026 , as per the Odia lunar calendar. What is Sabitri Brata? Sabitri Brata is dedicated to the legendary figure of Savitri, the embodiment of wifely devotion, strength, and virtue. Women across Odisha observe this day by fasting from sunrise to sunset. The vrat is performed with the belief that it can protect the husband from evil forces and extend his life. The fast is often difficult, but it is kept with love, faith, and full-hearted dedication.
